6 Self Storage Moving Tips

It’s no easy task, putting all your valuables in cardboard boxes and driving them miles to a new location. Thankfully, there are ways to ease the burden on moving. Today we’re going to give you six great tips on moving your stuff into storage facilities, simple!

1. Ask For Help

This one can be hard for some people, but asking for help can really make a stressful move much easier to handle. Everyone has someone that’s willing to help, all it takes is taking the step to ask for a bit of help. You’d be so surprised at how fast things get done we you have a few sets of hands to help.

2. Make a List

We’ve talked about it here before but sometimes the most simple things go the longest way. Writing a list can take a lot off your mind and keep things organised when it comes to the big move day. Write down all the things you need to store and where, it will come in handy one day.

3. Plan Ahead

This goes hand in hand with making a list. Give some time to really think and plan out what, when, how and where you will move. Make sure you don’t forget about the little details. Be sure to let your friends and family know where they need to be and what time. Make sure your booking is set with your self storage facility, and if you’re using a moving truck make sure it’s booked for the right time. Just give yourself some time and space to iron out the details ahead of the move and get prepared.

4. Big Things, Little Things

Figure out what are the biggest things your storing, and the small things alike. If you don’t have access to a free moving truck you will need to plan out the most logical way to move things. I would always recommend starting with the bigger items. That way when you get to your unit, you will have the most amount of wiggle room to store the bigger items more comfortably. The little things can often get in the way, and are easy enough to stack and store around bigger items.

5. Be Generous!

Maybe it’s time for some spring cleaning. Moving into a storage unit is always a good time to purge the things you have accumulated over the years that you just aren’t using anymore. Take some time to go through and get rid of the things you haven’t used in the last year. Chances are if you haven’t used them in the last 12 months, you probably won’t in the next 12.

6. Get a Truck

Having a moving truck takes moving from a super stressful, long winded project to a super simple, couple hour job. Look into how much getting a moving truck would cost for a couple of hours. This will take away a lot of the hassle of moving, and will have you moved in no time!
